University of the West is proud to offer classes and workshops to the wider community through Community Education.  Registration is easy and allows you access to real -time class sessions and/or online video lectures.

Community Education classes and lectures are provided on a no-credit basis.  If you are interested in taking a class for college credit, please register through OPEN ENROLLMENT»

Buddhist Meditation for Stress & Anxiety

“Buddhist Meditation for Stress & Anxiety” is a 12-week in-person course, focused on dealing with the pressures of everyday life, as well as the possibilities of self-discovery and transformation through meditation.

International and Intercultural Chaplaincy

Thursdays, 5:00 to 6:30 PM Pacific Time

This case-based course will examine how spiritual care is performed and is developing within and across different nations and cultures. We will look particularly at Asian nations and non-monotheistic cultures, as they offer some of the more notable comparisons to chaplaincy within the North America setting.

Nathan Jishin Michon (MA, MDiv, PhD) is editor of A Thousand Hands: Guidebook to Caring for Your Buddhist Community and the forthcoming Refuge in the Storm: Buddhist Voices in Crisis Care. Jishin is ordained as both a Shingon Buddhist priest and an interfaith minister, and has served as a disaster chaplain for survivors of the 2011 tsunami in Japan through Cafe de Monk, as well as working with hospice and memory care residents.
